Inside Dell: Where Cybersecurity Gets Real

On June 20, 2025, our DICE Club team had the incredible opportunity to visit Dell’s Cybersecurity Center, where we were introduced to the inner workings of a truly global approach to digital defense. This behind-the-scenes look at how Dell protects its infrastructure, clients, and data offered valuable insights into both the complexity and the importance of cybersecurity in today’s tech-driven world.

One of the most memorable parts of the visit was learning about Dell’s color-coded security team structure. Each team plays a unique role:

• The Red Team simulates real cyberattacks to identify vulnerabilities before actual hackers do.

• The Blue Team monitors, detects, and responds to threats as they happen.

• The Green Team builds secure systems and fortifies infrastructure.

• The Orange Team serves as the bridge between offense and defense—encouraging collaboration and shared learning.
  We also heard about Dell’s digital forensics, incident response, and compliance teams, which all come together to form a comprehensive and resilient security ecosystem.

Another highlight was being introduced to Paul Jerimy’s Security Certification Roadmap—a visual guide to the many paths one can take in a cybersecurity career. It mapped out everything from entry-level certs like CompTIA Security+ to advanced tracks in penetration testing, cloud security, and incident response. It was especially helpful for those of us still figuring out where we might fit into the world of cybersecurity.

We also attended three powerful talks from Dell’s cybersecurity experts:

• One focused on how to build a cybersecurity career, including tips on standing out and the importance of continuous learning.

• Another covered modern threats and how Dell’s security teams respond to them in real time.

• The last session explored real-world case studies showing how the Red, Blue, Green, and Orange teams collaborate to defend against increasingly complex threats.

What stood out throughout the visit was the teamwork, trust, and strategic thinking behind every decision Dell’s security teams make. And while the content was deeply technical, it also reminded us—especially as creative media students—why understanding cybersecurity matters in our work too. Whether you're building a game, designing an app, or crafting digital content, being aware of security risks and best practices is essential in today’s digital-first world.

Huge thanks to Dell’s cybersecurity professionals for welcoming us with such openness and energy, and to DICE Club for organizing this enriching visit. We left not only with new knowledge, but also with a renewed appreciation for the unsung heroes behind secure digital experiences.
